There’s a new Sérgio at Bloco
Remember we were looking for a junior Android developer to join our team? We found him, meet Sérgio Domingues.
We asked Sérgio a couple of questions so you can know him a bit better.
Tell us a bit about yourself?🕵🏻♂️
My name is Sérgio, I'm 30 years old. I'm from a village called Tocha and I study computer engineering at ISEC here in Coimbra.
What do you do when you’re not working?⛱
One of my favourite hobbies is to walk on the beach with my dog. I'm very much into nature and animals so whenever I can go outside I do it. Aside from that I usually meet with friends to watch a football game, go to a coffee shop or something like that.
You’re having a dinner party at your place. If you could invite anyone, who would that be and why? What would be the menu? Which type of music would be on the playlist?🥘
If I could invite many people it would be my closest friends but if I could invite just one person it would be my cousin Eduardo, he's not just a friend he's like my brother and I spent most of my youth with him so we are pretty close, by the way he is also a software developer. The menu could be Francesinha, I think he likes it too. The music I like to hear the most is hip hop/rap but since Eduardo is going the playlist should be something like deep house.
If you could fix one problem around you, what would that problem be? Why? What have you done to try to solve it?♻️
One thing that really bothers me is the amount of plastic waste at the beach close to my house because I see that almost every weekend and unlike in the Summer when somebody from the council come to clean the beach for people to go there, in the colder months the plastic just accumulates there.
Everytime I go there I pick some plastic or even glass bottles from the sand and take them to the recycling bin, but I'm pretty aware that I can't solve the problem myself, I think I do this just to feel a little better about it.
How were your first weeks at Bloco?🧑🏽💻
Pretty good, from day one I knew I was in the right place. They are very calm people and the working environment is perfect. I felt a little nervous at first because I could see how much I would have to learn but now I'm fine about it and very motivated.
What are you learning right now?📲
I'm learning new tools I can use developing Android apps, as well as architectural software pattern's to help me write code in a more organized way. I'm also learning to use version control software so I can work on shared projects in a more efficient way, it's something I was not used to use but surely very useful.
Why did you choose to work in Android apps?🤖
First time I had Android classes, I think it was last year and I felt like it was different from any development I had done before. The project structure of an Android app seemed very confusing to me, so many different files to integrate with each other and also so many available tools to use. I've done a game app in that course. It worked but I felt like I was not developing the right way.
So I decided to do my six months internship developing an Android app. By the time I finished the internship I still felt like it was not enough, and since I was liking it I decided to get a job in it. Then came the opportunity to join Bloco just at the right time and here I am.
